The torch run before the Missouri Show-Me State Games will be in Joplin on Wednesday.
Activities begin at noon in Cunningham Park, located at the corner of 26th and Maiden Lane. Speakers include representatives from the Show-Me State Games and Joplin Mayor Pro Tem Bill Scearce.
The torch run begins on Tuesday in Springfield. After leaving Joplin, the torch will travel to Lee’s Summit on July 2, St. Charles on July 9 and Jefferson City on July 19.
From Jefferson City, the torch will make its way to its final destination, Mizzou Arena in Columbia, for opening ceremonies on July 19 at 7 p.m.
Competition in the Show-Me State Games will be held July 19-21 and July 26-28 in Columbia.
The Show-Me State Games were established in 1985 as a non-profit program of the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Health. The Games, hosted by the University of Missouri, have grown to become the largest state games in the nation.
