Tanner Poppe, a graduate of Girard High School and The University of Kansas, is 1-0 with 0.00 ERA and eight strikeouts after his first two appearances in professional baseball.
Poppe, a 6-foot-6 righty, was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 31st round of the MLB draft earlier this month.
The former Jayhawk signed shortly after the draft and was placed on the Brewers’ Rookie Arizona League squad.
He made his professional debut on June 20 against the Dodgers’ rookie team, striking out five batters and allowing only one hit over three innings of relief.
Poppe earned his first professional victory Wednesday against the Indians’ rookie team, striking out three and allowing four hits over three innings in the 9-8 win.
