There’s a chance that Missouri Southern will play the Missouri Tigers in a men’s exhibition basketball game this fall.
In Joplin.
“I’ve talked to Coach (Frank) Haith, and he asked if we would be receptive to the idea,” Lions head coach Robert Corn said. “They initiated the talk about it. He asked if we’d be interested in playing around Halloween. I told him just tell us the time and place, and we’ll be there.
“They already have their two (allowed) exhibition games scheduled for next season, so the NCAA would have to grant a waiver.”
All proceeds from the game would be given to the tornado relief funds.
Haith, the Tigers’ new head coach, is driving from Columbia to Joplin today to deliver donated supplies in support of the United Way’s “United for Joplin” campaign.
“The images of the destruction in Joplin are absolutely devastating,” Haith said in a press release. “But at the same time, the sight of neighbor helping neighbor serves as inspiration for us all.
“We can’t change what happened on Sunday night, but if we can make life a little easier, you better believe we are going to try and do it.”
Mizzou Athletics also has T-shirts on sale that read “One State, One Spirit, One Mizzou” with proceeds again going to the “United for Joplin” campaign. Haith and the other MU staffers will be wearing these shirts today.
