HENRY: Brisco rolls another 300

The 300s just keep on coming for David Brisco.

Brisco fired his fourth perfect game this season on Nov. 30 at Bowl East.

“I thought I had another one (this past Friday night),” he said. “I threw the first eight (strikes), then left a solid 8 (pin) and finished it out for a 279.

“Last Friday night the lanes seemed a little slicker. I threw inside and threw 12 in a row.”

All of Brisco’s 300s this year have been at Bowl East — one on Tuesday night, one on Wednesday night and two on Friday night.

“I’d never shot more than two (perfect games) in a season before,” he said. “I’ve done real well. I should have shot more, but that’s just the breaks. It’s a good start, a good season.

“I’ve done a little bit of changing in my game. I feel a little bit more comfortable, I’m getting more carry and a little bit of luck that I was not getting before. Once you get a little bit of luck going ... some nights there are a little more forgiveness and it goes right in the pocket.”

Part of Brisco’s changes began last year when he purchased a ball from Jeremy Clark.

“You can always pick up something from all the good bowlers out here,” Brisco said. “Jeremy’s ball had a little bit different layout on the thumb, and I really liked it. It feels a lot more comfortable. I wish I had known it five or 10 years ago and done it that way.”

As far as other changes, “I’ve slowed my feet down a little bit and am throwing the ball a little harder,” Brisco said.

Brisco, the all-events winner in last year’s Joplin Open, is still chasing one number this season — that 800 series.

“I’ve come close, a 790 and four 780s,” he said. “I’ve probably had four or five real good opportunities that I turned 550 or better (after two games) and haven’t been able to break it yet.

“But I think it’s coming. I promised Lori (Fleming, Bowl East employee) that I would get an 800, and I’m going to stick with it.”
