Lions take 7th in first tourney

SUNRISE BEACH, Mo. — Missouri Southern posted its second straight 314 team score Wednesday and remained in seventh place as the Missouri Intercollegiate concluded its two-day run at The Club at Porto Cima.

Central Missouri, which owned a one-shot lead after Tuesday’s first round, fired a 5-over-par 293 and pulled away for the team title with 591. Missouri-St. Louis and Drury tied for second at 606 after second rounds of 299 and 307, respectively.

Williams Woods was fourth with 622, followed by Southwest Baptist and Lindenwood with 627 and the Lions with 628.

The Mules’ Matt Miller and Ryan Kloeppel tied for medalist honors with 3-over-par 147s. Miller fired a 3-under 69 on Wednesday for the tournament’s only round below 70, and Kloeppel closed with a 76.

Jason Vann of Central Missouri and Andrew Funk of Drury tied for third at 148.

Jamie Voegeli carded a final-round 73 and finished at 151 for the Lions’ best finish, a tie for 11th place.

Andy Hogenmiller tied for 21st place with 78—154. The Lions’ other scores were Alec Wickey 81—157, James Newman 82—169 and Andrew Maier 87—171.

The Lions return to the Lake of the Ozarks next week for the Lincoln Invitational at Kinderhook, the first MIAA points tournament of the season.
