KANSAS CITY, Mo. —
Dr. Bob Boerigter, athletics director at Northwest Missouri State the last nine years, has been named the next commissioner of the MIAA.
Boerigter’s selection was announced Wednesday by the league’s Chief Executive Officers Council. Boerigter, one of 23 applicants for the job, starts his new job on Sept. 20 and becomes the league’s fourth commissioner, succeeding Jim Johnson, who began work as Pittsburg State’s athletics director this week.
“I am honored to have been asked to serve as the MIAA’s next commissioner,” Boerigter said in a press release. “I am looking forward to serving our membership in this capacity as we continue to expand and grow our services for our member institutions.”.
At Northwest Missouri, Boerigter served as the lead administrator for the department of athletics/HPERD including recreational sports, club sports, campus recreation and the campus fitness center; was involved in the planning, construction, completion and opening of the school’s $5 million dollar football stadium renovation; completed refurbishing of the outdoor track facility with improvements totaling over $300,000 and implemented the Fall Classic at Arrowhead football game between the Bearcats and Pittsburg State.
“Obviously Northwest is a very special place consisting of a special group of student-athletes, special staff and a very passionate alumni and fan base,” Boerigter said. “It has certainly been my privilege to have served as athletics director. You have to be in this position to appreciate the loyalty of the people we deal with every day, and I’m certainly going to miss that.”
Before coming to Northwest, Boerigter was AD at Northwestern (Iowa), Adams State (Colo.), Whitworth (Wash.) and Hastings (Neb.).
“We are extremely pleased that Dr. Boerigter has agreed to serve as our commissioner,” said Dr. Pat Taylor, president of Southwest Baptist and chair of the CEO Council. “The conference has had excellent leadership under previous commissioners, and we are excited about the future of the MIAA under Dr. Boerigter’s leadership. Dr. Boerigter’s past experiences as director of athletics, coach and teacher will serve him well as commissioner of the MIAA.”
Boerigter and his wife, Mary, have two sons, Marc (former Kansas City Chiefs receiver) and John and two grandchildren.
