No. 8-ranked Butler downs Crowder

NEOSHO, Mo. — Butler Community College, ranked eighth nationally in NJCAA Division I women’s basketball, dealt Crowder an 80-58 loss on Thursday night.

Four players scored in double figures for the Grizzlies (15-1). They led 47-25 at halftime.

Said Crowder coach Tina Robbins: “We played well for about minutes. We trailed 25-22. Then, of course, they went on a 22-3 run to close out the half.”

Dorian Briggs and Courtney Jones scored 18 and 13 points, respectively, to pace Crowder (6-9). They each sank three 3s.

Te’era Williams and Shayla Williams combined for 34 points to lead Butler of El Dorado, Kan.

Crowder was missing 6-foot-2 freshman Mariana Silva because of an  injury, Robbins said, and her status isn’t sure for Saturday as Independence (Kan.) visits for a 2 p.m. game in Bob Sneller Gymnasium.
