Webb City boys qualify 7 entries for state track meet

WEST PLAINS, Mo. — Webb City, led by sprinter Jarvis Jones and jumper/sprinter Alex Christian, qualified seven entries Saturday for next weekend’s Class 4 boys state track and field meet.

The Cardinals earned 61 points to finish fourth in the Class 4 Sectional 3 team standings behind Columbia Rock Bridge (105), Jefferson City (98) and West Plains (62).

Jones won the 100 meters (11.01 seconds) and finished second in the 200, and Christian placed third in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump.

Jones and Christian also ran a leg on both the 4x200 and 4x100 relay teams that qualified with third-place finishes. Joining them were Logan Williams and Trey Parra on the 4x200 team and Phoenix Johnson and Parra on the 4x100.

Joplin high jumpers Ryun Snider and Miriah Johnson both advanced to state after third-place finishes in sectional.

Carthage’s Kaylee Morgan qualified in four events — second in the 200, third in the long jump, fourth in the 100 and anchor on the 4x100 relay team that finished third. Amy Keller, Sierra Barrett and Amanda Shannon ran the first three legs on the relay. The Tigers tied for seventh place in the team standings with 37 points.

The Tigers qualified one boys entry — Bryan Burns finished second in the discus — and Neosho’s Sydnie Lowe placed fourth in the girls 100 hurdles.

The state meet will be held Friday and Saturday at Lincoln University in Jefferson City.

Class 3 Sectional

MARSHFIELD, Mo. — Carl Junction, receiving first-place performances from Christian Repsher and Matt Magee, advanced six entries from the Class 3 Sectional 3 to the state championships.

The Bulldogs have three boys and three girls entries bound for state. They finished fifth in the boys team standings with 36 points and 11th in the girls standings with 32 points.

Repsher cleared 13 feet, 6 inches to win the pole vault, and Magee captured the 200 meters in 22.97 seconds. The Bulldogs’ 4x200 relay team of Nick Kennedy, Magee, Alex McMullen and Nick Thompson also qualified by taking fourth.

Carl Junction’s three girls qualifiers all placed second in sectional — Hope Joyner in the 100 hurdles, Britney Rose in the 300 hurdles and the 4x400 relay team of Emily Keeter, Sydney Koch, Alex King and Rose.

Monett’s Chris Renteria won the 1600 meters (4:30.86), and second places went to Mount Vernon’s Shane Williams in the triple jump, Seneca’s Thaddeus Foley in the discus, Cassville’s Cody Frana in the 110 hurdles and East Newton’s Jared Hopkins in the 800.

In the girls meet, Cassville’s Calisa Brooks won the 100 (12.91) and ran the leadoff leg on the winning 4x100 team. Jade Hollway, Danielle Pianalto and Katie Sewell also ran on the team that won in 53.02 seconds.

McDonald County’s Courtni Smith and Nevada’s Ashley Shumaker finished second in the triple jump and high jump, respectively. The Mustangs were eighth with 36 points to lead area teams in the standings.
