Freshman ShaQuita Arnick starred off the bench to help Northeastern Oklahoma A&M defeat Carl Albert State 66-55 in women’s junior college basketball on Monday night.
Forward Arnick scored 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as NEO improved to 18-7 overall and 11-4 in the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Frederick Santos, another freshman forward, sparkled as the NEO men won 71-61. Santos, hitting 10 of 11 shots from the field, scored 25 and grabbed 14 boards.
Carl Albert State’s women, who trailed 33-23 at the half in Mickey Thompson Fitness Center, fell to 5-10 in the OCAC and 9-15 overall in losing to NEO for the second time this season.
Jennifer Williams tallied 17 for NEO. DeVaughn Gray had 9, Megan Schieber 4, Kate Frazier and Eliana Fernandez 3, and Sofia Mendoza and Jenna Chadd 2.
Erika Edwards and Abby Ledbetter scored 13 and 12 to pace Carl Albert State.
The NEO men (15-12, 8-7) dropped the Vikings 3-21 and 1-14.
Jeff Newberry backed Santos, who logged his 21st double-double of the campaign, with 16 points. Derrick Frye and Nkosi Ali each had six.
NEO returns to Miami on Thursday to finish its regular season against Redlands.
