Daye, father to help with coin flip at LSU

Daryl Daye returns Saturday afternoon to what he considers hallowed ground.

Daye and his father Donnie will be at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La., and participate in the coin toss before LSU plays Mississippi.

Donnie Daye played fullback and linebacker on LSU’s 1958 championship team. Daryl Daye also played linebacker at LSU and was a player or assistant coach on five LSU teams that went to bowl games.

“It’s exciting to get back on the field with my dad,” Daye said. “In 1985 we walked out my senior year and were together on the field. In 2008 we were on the field again when they honored the ’58 national championship team he was on. I thought to myself that might be the last time, but then this came up, and it’s just tremendous. I’m so appreciative that the Lettermen’s Club contacted us.

“There will be 90,000-plus in the stands, and I’ll have my Missouri Southern green and gold on in the middle of the field. I might bleed purple and gold, but my heart is green and gold right now.”
