BRANSON, Mo. —
Branson, rapping 12 singles, spoiled the Carl Junction High School baseball opener by winning 7-4 in the Steve Lael Leadoff Classic on Saturday.
Left fielder Levi Babb singled and doubled and drove in two runs for the Bulldogs. Kurtlin Hulette and Tyler Armentrout also had RBI for Carl Junction.
Branson received three hits and one RBI from right fielder Austin Brogan. Three Pirates rapped two hits — shortstop Tyler Whiteis (a Missouri Southern signee), first baseman Lake Keller and third baseman Daniel Scott.
Zach Redford, a sophomore right-hander, allowed six hits, struck out five and didn’t walk a batter in six innings for the win. The right-handed Whiteis finished.
The Pirates scored three times in both the second and fourth innings.
Carl Junction coach Flave Darnell said that Armentrout, a junior right-hander, will open on the mound against visiting Lebanon at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
