After waiting a day for the field at Joe Becker Stadium to dry, Missouri Southern is scheduled to face Northeastern State (Okla.) at 2 p.m. today in an MIAA baseball doubleheader.
The games are a rematch of a doubleheader last week at Northeastern State. Missouri Southern won the first game 5-4 in eight innings and lost the second game 7-3.
The doubleheader originally was scheduled for Tuesday but was postponed for a day because of the snow that fell in the Joplin area Sunday.
The Lions (14-11, 10-9 MIAA) have won six of their last seven games, including a three-game sweep last weekend at Lincoln. Northeastern State (12-11, 12-11), which was swept by Missouri Western in a three-game series, has lost four of its last five.
The RiverHawks are batting .304 as a team, led by senior outfielder Trent Wilkins, who is batting .353 and is tied with for the team lead in runs scored with 25.
Outfielder Cody Robinson, a junior transfer from Tulane, is batting .329 with 11 home runs and 30 RBI. NSU’s starting rotation is led by Craig George, who is 3-2 with a 5.46 ERA.
Offensively, MSSU is led by catcher/outfielder Sam Ryan, who is batting .407 and leads the team in hits (37), doubles (11) and RBI (20). Catcher/outfielder Dallas Burke is batting .354 and is tied with third baseman Tee Helsel for the team lead in home runs with three.
Shortstop Thomas Wilson, who is batting .341, and second baseman Michael McCoy, who is batting .340, form the middle of the Lions’ infield defense.
Among the leaders in the Lions’ starting rotation are junior right-handers Drew Noble, (4-1, 4.59 ERA) and David Reese (2-3, 4.75 ERA). Left-handers Brett Abell and Payton Walker were the winning pitchers in Saturday’s doubleheader at Lincoln.
