Lamar's record outburst sinks McAuley

LAMAR, Mo. — McAuley’s touchdown on the opening possession ignited quite a fire in the Lamar Tigers.

Lamar responded with 71 unanswered points — 57 of which came in the first quarter — and beat the Warriors 71-6 in a Class 2 District 7 opener.

Those 57 first-quarter points set a state record for points scored in a quarter. The previous record was Smith-Cotton’s 49 against Westport in 2008.

Mitch Wear hit Greg Carney for a 12-yard touchdown that put the Warriors up 6-0 early after one drive. McAuley finished that drive with 83 yards of offense, but lost nine yards over the course of the night, giving the Warriors a total of 74 yards of offense.

Lamar, meanwhile, racked up 582 rushing yards on 56 carries — that’s 10.4 yards per carry — and finished with 621 yards of offense.

Jared Beshore had 149 yards and three touchdowns on five carries while Markell White had 104 yards and two touchdowns on six carries.. Levi Petersen added 58 yards and a pair of scores on four carries and Brett Campbell had 47 yards and a touchdown on four carries.

Wear passed for 111 yards for McAuley.
