Briggs sparks Crowder to win

NEOSHO, Mo. — Being the team’s only sophomore, the spotlight was on Dorian Briggs during Crowder College’s sophomore night.

Then Briggs’ performance made that spotlight shine a little brighter.

Briggs made 7-of-9 3-pointers, leading Crowder with 29 points during an 81-69 win against Moberly on Wednesday night.

“She stepped up and played a tremendous game,” Crowder coach Tina Robbins said. “She played well on the defensive end. She just played an all-around game.”

Briggs scored 21 points in the first half, helping the Riders to a 44-36 halftime lead.

Three other players scored in double figures for Crowder as Mariana Silva had 17, Ariana Gallegos had 12 and Tiffany Rhame added 11.

Robbins said it was a good team victory for the Riders (10-18, 3-6 Region 16)

“I’m very proud of how they played tonight,” she said. “They came out and played hard and played with a lot of energy. They played with a focus that they haven’t played with in a while. When you do that, good things happen.

“Briggs had an outstanding game tonight, but it was a total team effort. Everyone contributed tonight.”

Crowder travels to Three Rivers on Saturday.
