Local softball team fares well at USSSA World Series

AIRPORT DRIVE, Mo. — The Missouri Slammers 14-and-under softball team finished tied for 13th in the USSSA Fast-Pitch World Series this past week at Lawrence.

Missouri finished 3-0 in pool play, then won its first two games in the winners’ bracket before falling 2-0 to the Northern Colorado Stars on Friday. The Slammers beat Dolphin’s of Lee’s Summit and Regal Ice Black in the losers’ bracket before losing 8-7 to OK Diamondz on Saturday.

Based out of Neosho, the Missouri Slammers includes Joplin’s Cortney Krolman and Courtney Shryock, Seneca’s Payton Clouse and Macy Jo VanDorn, Wheaton’s Karlee Mason, Diamond’s Macie Seward, East Newton’s Ellie White and Taylor Mathis, Purdy’s Rion Boyd and Sami House and Carthage’s Savannah Downing.

The Slammers, who have won state titles in each of the past two years, are coached by Shaine Mathis, Jason White and Bob Shryock.
