Eagles to play top seed in district tournament

Joplin’s girls face a tough assignment today in the Class  5 District 12 Tournament at Willard.

So do the Neosho boys.

That’s the way it is, of course, if you’re a low seed in the postseason.

Joplin, seeded fourth, challenges No. 1 Parkview at 4 p.m. to open a four-game session.

The schedule, revamped because of inclement weather, continues with the third-seeded Neosho girls playing No. 2 Willard at 5:30.

Boys games are Neosho vs. No. 1 Willard at 7 and Parkview (2) vs. Central (3) at 8:30.

Championship games will be held on Thursday, with the girls playing at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30.

Joplin’s girls, registering a shutout in overtime, beat Central 52-44 on Saturday to reach the semifinals.

Bailey Taylor, a junior, and freshman Katie Sticklen combined for 32 Joplin points. It was the second win of the season for the Joplin girls against Central.

The Neosho boys, avenging a lopsided setback, ousted fourth-seeded Joplin 53-45. Sophomores Darrian Guillory and Devin Hames tallied 14 and 12 points, respectively, for the Wildcats.

The Joplin girls lost to Parkview in their Ozark Conference meeting during the regular season. The Neosho boys lost to Willard in their Central Ozark Conference Large Division clash.

Missouri State signees lead the Parkview girls and Willard boys.

The Parkview mainstay is 6-foot-1 Aubrey Buckley. The Willard all-stater is 6-5 Chris Kendrix.
