Joplin wins Webb City meet

Five Joplin swimmers earn high-point awards

WEBB CITY, Mo. — The Joplin Stingrays captured the team championship in the Webb City Summer Invitational on Saturday at the Buck Miner Swim Center.

The Stingrays accumulated 537.5 points and won the team crown for the third time in four summer meets.

Carthage finished second with 386.5, followed by Monett 318, Nevada 198, Webb City 166, Lamar 156.5, Parsons (Kan.) 131, Pittsburg (Kan.) 115, Siloam Springs (Ark.) 104.5, Branson 68, Claremore (Okla.) 52 and Missouri State Aquatics from Springfield 4.

Five Joplin swimmers earned high-point trophy awards in their age divisions. Kiera Holt and Jera White shared the girls 8-under award. The Stingrays’ Lana Desmond won the girls 10-under trophy, Brock Conklin took the boys 6-under trophy, and Liam Holt shared the 11-12 boys honor with Tyler Nichols of Claremore.

Carthage and Pittsburg each had a trio of high-point winners. Carthage’s Seth Jensen won the boys 8-under division, and Abby Allison and Liz Mouton tied in 15-18 girls. Pittsburg’s winners were Sophia Wehrman in 6-under girls, Mariah Monsour in 11-12 girls and Bryce Hinde in 13-14 girls.

Matt Roughton of Webb City won the boys 15-18 trophy. Other high-point winners: Alex Smith of Siloam Springs in 13-14 boys and Andrew Stewart of Parsons in 10-under boys.
