WARRENSBURG, Mo. — The Carthage and Springfield Kickapoo American Legion baseball teams produced a wild winners’ bracket final in the Missouri Zone 3 Tournament on Friday night.
Carthage tallied two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to triumph 10-9 at Grover Park.
Carthage, District 15 champion, opened in the four-team, double-elimination tournament by beating West Plains 8-1. Earlier, Kickapoo beat Warrensburg.
Carthage (26-24) is idle today. The Merchants will play at 1 p.m. on Sunday, with another game if necessary to follow, in the championship round.
Warrensburg and West Plains play at 3:30 p.m. in today’s first elimination game.
Kickapoo (33-11) meets the winner in the second game.
The champion advances to Washington next week for the state finals.
