Nikki Llewellyn added to her scoring record at Missouri Southern State University Friday, posting the 39th and 40th goals of her career as the Lions kicked off the 2008 women’s soccer campaign with a 2-1 victory over the Abilene Christian Wildcats in two overtimes at Hal Bodon Field.
Southern fell behind when Jackie Gentile headed in a shot off an assist from Jordan Reese in the 46th minute. ACU held that lead until Llewellyn, a senior, pulled the Lions even on an assist from Michelle Dimza with a little over three minutes left in regulation.
Llewellyn applied the clincher in the 104th minute off a pass from Shannon Kuhn.
Southern, with Llewellyn making seven attempts, outshot the Wildcats 20-14, including a 10-3 bulge in the second half. The Lions held a 10-9 edge in shots on goal.
Lions’ goalkeeper Lisa Senkle and ACU goalie Chrissy Lawson each logged eight saves.
Missouri Southern returns to action Sunday, traveling to Searcy, Ark., for a 1 p.m. match with Harding University.
Southern men lose in OT
Alberto Escovar’s shot from 10 yards out in the fourth minute of the first overtime gave the Texas A&M; International Dustdevils a 2-1 soccer victory over the Missouri Southern State University Lions Friday.
The game, the season opener for both schools,. was played in Tahlequah, Okla.
Southern broke a scoreless tie in the 75th minute on freshman Kevin Aubuchon’s goal from 15 yards out on an assist by Nate Evans.
Texas A&M; International tied the score in the 84th minute on a 30-yard free kick by Chrstian Salazar.
Although outshot 22-10 overall and 13-3 on goal, the Lions stayed close all the way.
Goalkeeper Jon Hansen saved 10 shots for the Lions while Luis Rincon stopped two shots fro the Dustdevils.
The Lions will meet Truman State in a 2 p.m. game Sunday at Tahlequah.
NEO drops pair
MIAMI, Okla. — Northeastern Oklahoma A&M; dropped a pair of soccer matches Friday to Blue River (Mo.).
The visitors shut out the women 2-0 and the men 5-1.
The NEO women (0-2) will be host to Independence, Kan., at 3 p.m. today, followed by the men (3-1) at 5 p.m.

Lions drop three
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Missouri Southern spoiled Rollins’ season-opening volleyball game Friday but the Florida women came back to win the next three contests and topple the Lions in the St. Mary’s Invitational at San Antonio.
Rollins dropped the opener 25-5 before closing out the match 27-25, 25-22, 25-21. In Friday’s second game, Augustana hiked its record to 2-0 by upending the Lions 19-25, 27-25, 25-20, 25-17.
The Lions opened the tournament and their season Thursday with a loss against host St. Mary’s, 15-25, 25-23, 25-20, 18-25, 15-12.
Southern’s Ashlee Russell had 13 kills, two service aces and eight digs against Rollins, which was led by Nikki Hartman’s 16 kills and eight digs.
Ashley Hill had 16 kills and 15 digs to guide the Lions against Augustana, which was led by Ellen Andrews’ 17 kills.
In the St. Mary’s contest, Sarah Jones, who had 30 assists against Rollins, sparked Southern with 51 assists and nine digs, leaving her 105 assists away from second place all-time in Southern history. Jeanna Feldman had 16 kills and 11 digs to aid the Lions’ cause.
The Lions will wrap up the tournament today with a match against Eastern New Mexico.
PSU wins two
ROLLA, Mo. — Pittsburg State opened its volleyball season Friday with two victories in the Missouri S&T; Middle of Everywhere Classic.
The Gorillas defeated St. Cloud State 9-25, 25-13, 25-22, 25-18 and Southwestern Oklahoma State 25-18, 25-15, 25-16.
Sammie Williams collected 10 kills and 15 digs to spark PSU past St. Cloud.
PSU seniors Klaudia Grelowska Belchatow and Linda Igbinigie each had 11 killls and 10 digs against Southwestern.
The Gorillas return to action today against Southern Indiana at noon and Grand Valley State at 4 p.m.
