EMPORIA, Kan. — Nikki Llewellyn, Missouri Southern’s career scoring leader, notched her first hat trick and assisted on another goal as the Lions rolled past Emporia State 5-1 Thursday.
The win by the Lions (4-6, 2-5 MIAA) marked the 50th career victory for head coach Trevor Wachsman.
Llewellyn’s first goal came in the 11th minute off an assist from Megan Walker. Nine minutes later Sara Evers fed Llewellyn for a breakaway goal and a 2-0 lead.
Brianna McKenzie’s goal from 15 yards out gave the Lions a 3-0 halftime lead.
Llewellyn completed her hat trick 13 minutes into the second half off a cross from Gentri White. Just three minutes later, White scored off a pass from Llewellyn for the Lions’ final goal.
Lions goalie Randi Russell made six saves, but the Hornets (3-7, 1-5) spoiled her shutout bid on Alison Germany’s goal with 12 minutes left.

ROLLA, Mo. — Sam Shaffer and Nick Landon scored goals to lead the Miners past Missouri Southern in men’s soccer action.
Jon Hansen had seven saves in goal for the Lions (0-10-1). The Miners (5-4-2) led 1-0 at halftime, and Landon’s goal came two minutes into the second half.
The Lions return to action Oct. 12 at home against Midwestern State (Texas).
