STILLWATER, Okla. — Missouri Southern placed 11th in both divisions of the Oklahoma State Jamboree cross country meet on Saturday.
The Southern women had the top finish among Division II schools and the Southern men were third.
“We thought this course came close to duplicating what the national course will be like,” said Patty Vavra, Southern women’s coach.
Junior Kimi Shank led the Southern women by finishing 11th individually. Shank ran the six-kilometer course in 21 minutes, 37 seconds. Senior Kara Eckard was 54th and Ashley Bunch was 88th, followed by Kari Fritchie (92nd), Victoria Kline (99th), Olga bulgurova (114th) and Silvia Pineda (124th).
Junior Brennon Benkert paced the Southern men with a 46th place finish, running eight kilometers in 25:51.
Jarkko Jarvenpaa was 51st, followed by Aki Nummela (58th), Derek Mendell (91st), Shawn Goebel (112th) and Deric Kimery (136th).
Both Southern teams are entered in the Border States Invitational next Saturday in Edwardsville, Ill.
VOLLEYBALL
Lions drop pair
PITTSBURG, Kan. — Missouri Southern lost two matches by 3-0 scores Saturday in the Pittsburg State volleyball invitational.
West Texas A&M; whipped the Lions 25-12, 25-13, 25-13 and Angelo State prevailed 25-23, 25-22, 25-21.
Southern (6-11 overall) managed just 25 kills against West Texas, led by Amelia Judge’s five. Sarah Joles had 16 assists and Ashlee Russell six digs.
Brittany Vavao-Huggins had seven kills and Jeanna Feldman added six against Angelo State. Joles had 19 assists and Kari Hammerbacher had 11 digs.
The Lions entertain Washburn at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
SOCCER
OCC claims 1-0 victory
DALLAS — The Ambassadors, bouncing back from a Friday loss, scored with about two minutes left in the first half to prevail against Dallas Christian College in women’s soccer.
Tiffany Evans had the goal and was assisted by Krystelle Lamczyk. Goalie Tanya Wood had five saves.
OCC, 2-8-1, visits Manhattan (Kan.) Christian for a 2 p.m. match next Saturday.
Southwestern Assemblies of God built a 3-0 halftime lead in handing the Ambassadors a 5-0 loss at Waxahachie (Texas) on Friday.
