Lion golfers finish third at SBU meet

BOLIVAR, Mo. — Missouri Southern climbed one spot Tuesday and finished third in the Southwest Baptist Invitational at the Silo Ridge Golf Course.

Central Missouri, seven shots back after Monday’s round, fired a four-man total of 2-under-par 286 and won the team championship with a 582. Southwest Baptist, the first-day leader at 289, closed with 296 for a 585 total.

The Lions took third with 598 after a final-round 298, followed by Truman State with 603, William Woods with 605 and Fort Hays State and Washburn with 606.

The Lions also moved up one spot in the league standings.

Central Missouri, which also prevailed in last month’s Pittsburg State Invitational, has a perfect two-tourament point total of 16, followed by MSSU with 12, Washburn 101/2, Truman State 10, Southwest Baptist 9, Fort Hays State 61/2, Pittsburg State 5 and Missouri Western 3.

The Lions’ Andy Hogenmiller matched par-72 in the final round and finished with a 145 total, earning a share of fifth place.

Lincoln’s Aaron Murphy and Central Missouri’s Justin Yoder tied for first with 142, and SBU’s Justin Sellin and the Mules’ Ty Needles had 143 and 144, respectively.

The Lions’ Seve Smith and Stephen Boyd tied for 26th place at 152, and Adam Nelson and David Eddy shot 153 and 154, respectively. The Lions’ Taylor Griffith shot 156 and David Clark had 160 competing as individual entries.

The meet concludes the Lions’ fall schedule.

Pittsburg State finished 12th in the team standings with a 630 after two rounds of 315. Ben Fisher led the Gorillas with 74-75—149, good for a tie for 13th place, and teammate Keith Capps shot 76-73—149 as an individual entry.
