NEVADA, Mo. — Nevada intercepted five Carl Junction passes and knocked off the Bulldogs 19-16 in a District 4-12 opener Friday night.
The Tigers, 2-5 overall, took the lead for good on a 17-yard touchdown pass from Austin Boldwin to Colby Shepherd early in the fourth quarter. That score put Nevada ahead 19-14.
Carl Junction later cut the deficit to three points with a safety.
Tyler Dobson sparked the Nevada defense, picking off three passes.
On offense, Boldwin provided the ignition. He passed for 156 yards and rushed for 130 more.
Carl Junction scored first in the opening quarter on a 51-yard touchdown strike from Matt Thompson to Jake Stevenson. Nii Abrahams kicked the extra point.
Nevada answered with a 3-yard touchdown pass from Boldwin to Jake Lawry, but the Bulldogs blocked the PAT attempt.
A 20-yard run by Boldwin, and a Chris Harris conversion, made it 13-7 Nevada at halftime.
Carl Junctio moved back ahead 14-13 in the thid quarter on a 40-yard touchdown pass from Thompson to Joey Braeckel.
Carl Junction continues district play Friday, entertaining Carthage. Nevada will play at Webb City on Friday for the district lead.
Webb City beat Carthage 35-7 in the other district opener.
