Although there is a short drive involved, area high school fans who crave postseason action can watch two second-round games on Saturday in southeast Kansas.
Riverton entertains Richmond-Central Heights at 2 p.m., and Galena plays host to Silver Lake at 5 in a pair of Class 3A games.
Riverton (10-0), the CNC champion, began its playoff run Tuesday night with a 52-12 victory over league foe Southeast. Central Heights (7-3) advanced with a 34-20 victory over Wellsville.
Galena (8-2) knocked off undefeated Cherryvale 34-24 on the road while Silver Lake (10-0) crushed Burlington, a six-win team, by a 78-0 margin.
In 4A Columbus (9-1), after a 39-33 victory over Independence, travels to face Paola (7-3) at 7 p.m. Saturday. Paolo ousted Iola 28-10 in its playoff opener.
Another matinee on Saturday has St. Mary’s-Colgan (9-1) at Moundridge (7-3) for a 3 p.m. kickoff. The Panthers rolled past Sedan 47-12 Tuesday night while Moundridge beat Humboldt 28-12.

Outlaws open season Thursday on the road
Chris Oldner takes a cut during the Joplin Outlaws practice Tuesday afternoon. The Outlaws open their season on Thursday night at Rossville and play seven road games before their home opener on June 5.
The Joplin Outlaws and new coach Rob Vessell have set some lofty goals for the 2012 baseball season.
