NEOSHO, Mo. — Cowley County slipped by Crowder 68-64 and Labette Community College toppled Lincoln Trail 73-62 Friday to open the Crowder Classic women’s junior college basketball tournament.
The four-team tourney, sponsored by Joplin Sports Authority, ends today with Lincoln Trail vs. Cowley at 1 p.m. and the host team taking on Labette at 3 p.m.
Cowley led 31-28 at halftime. Four players scored in double figures for each team. Elena Yankova topped Cowley with 15 points, while Afton Baldwin netted 19 to lead Crowder and all scorers. Other double figure scorers for Crowder were Kallie Flood with 15, Jessica Mitchell 14 and Sharese Ward 11.
Labette, behind Ayriel Robinson’s 25 points, put on a second-half spurt after holding a 33-32 advantage at intermission.
Talisha Davis tallied 23 points, including four three-pointers, to lead Lincoln Trail.
