Southwestern topples OCC in men's basketball

Southwestern College kept the Ozark Christian College men’s basketball team on the slide by beating the Ambassadors 95-43 at Winfield, Kan., on Monday night.

OCC (0-5) trailed 50-23 at halftime. The Moundbuilders, an NAIA Division II team, improved to 4-1.

OCC struggled by shooting 32.7 percent overall from the field and committing 25 turnovers. Southwestern committed only 11 turnovers, shot 50.7 percent from the field and led 48-26 in rebounding.

Brant Smith, who hit 2-of-6 treys, was the only scorer in double figures for OCC with 12. Michael Stephens and Clancy Allmoslecher combined for 15 points.

Marcus Batiste, a 6-foot-6 junior, scored 20 points to pace five players reaching double figures for Southwestern. Avery Richardson, 5-11 junior who drilled 4-of-7 treys, added 19.

Tim Moore snagged nine boards and tallied 11 for Southwestern.

OCC resumes at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday against Ecclesia College at Springdale, Ark.

Sweep for NEO

MIAMI, Okla. — Three Northeastern Oklahoma A&M; players combined for 48 points as the Golden Norsemen prevailed 77-72 for a sweep of Seminole in the NEO Fieldhouse.

The NEO women (6-1) logged a 73-51 victory in the first game. The NEO men improved to 5-3.

The NEO squads have little time to savor their success. Coffeyville visits tonight for a doubleheader starting at 6.

Skye Rees poured in 22 points for the Lady Norse. Megan Fraley added 17 and Nolisha Markham had 10.

The Seminole women (4-5), who trailed 37-27 at the half, were led by Holly Birmingham’s 19 points and Jasmine Thompson’s 13.

For the NEO men, who led 36-32 at the half, Phillipe Martin tallied 17, Chase Elliott 16 and Jamere King 15.

Seminole (3-3) got 20 points from Linsey Hughey and 19 from Joseph Ikhinmwin.
