Webb City swimmers
erase school records
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Webb City erased three school records and Molly Brown won the backstroke to highlight the Cardinals’ swimming effort on Saturday in the Ozarks Invitational at Foster Natatorium.
Brown, a senior, won the 100 backstroke in 1:00.58 to prevent a sweep of the 12 events by either Springfield Glendale or Blue Springs.
Webb City was sixth among 18 teams with 143 points. Finishing ahead of the Cardinals were Glendale (497), Blue Springs (360.5), Springfield Kickapoo (252), Springfield Central (216) and Columbia Rock Bridge (205).
Joplin placed ninth with 87 points and Carthage tied for 12th with 50. Lamar and Nevada tallied 6 and 2, respectively.
Webb City freshman Erica Logal logged a 1:18.03 in the breaststroke for one of the records.
The 200 medley relay team of Brown, Logal, freshman Brittany Steever and sophomore Ashley Johnson qualified for state by posting a 2:01.93 to lower the team record by three seconds.
Steever, Johnson, senior Kristina Duley and Brown turned in a 4:03.99 to lower their 400 freestyle relay mark by two seconds.
Basketball pairings
set for tournament
WEBB CITY, Mo. — Boys basketball pairings have been set for the annual Southwest Missouri Bank Webb City Classic scheduled Jan. 22-24.
The schedule on Jan. 22 is Olathe (Kan.) South vs. Branson at 6 p.m. and Webb City vs. Kansas City Lincoln Prep at 7:30.
Olathe South and Lincoln Prep clash at 6 p.m. on Jan. 23 with Webb City and Branson meeting in the second contest.
The matinee pairings on Jan. 24 are Branson vs. Lincoln Prep at 1 p.m. and Webb City vs. Olathe South at 2:30.
