NEVADA, Mo. — Favored Webb City and second-seeded Harrisonville triumphed on Thursday night to move into the boys championship game of the MSHSAA Class 4 District 12 Tournament.
The Cardinals, leading 12-2 after one period, subdued fourth-seeded Nevada 43-26.
Harrisonville then raced past third-seeded Carl Junction 91-80 behind the combined 61 points from Sam Cooper and Clint Hocker.
Harrisonville will challenge Webb City at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday for the title. The Webb City girls tackle Nevada at 6 p.m. to settle that championship.
Austin Lepper and Trey Laveroni scored 19 and 16 points, respectively, to pace the Webb City boys against Nevada.
“We had a strong defensive effort,” Cardinal coach Dave Sherer said. “Our kids didn’t gamble too much and give them open looks. I was pleased with the defensive effort of Austin Daniel and Patrick Drake.”
Sherer noted that Laveroni had several assists and tallied 10 points in the fourth quarter.
Ross Wolfe, who sank four 3s, paced Nevada in scoring with 16. The Tigers trailed 25-14 at the half.
Hocker, who had two treys, poured in 36 points for the Wildcats. Cooper had five treys in notching 25.
Carl Junction’s Jake Stevenson poured in seven treys in scoring 32. The Bulldogs, who trailed 41-36 at halftime and 66-55 entering the fourth, received 16 points from Jansen Adams, 14 from Austin Osborn and 10 from Andrew Clark.
College Heights girls, 66-39
GOLDEN CITY, Mo. — The Cougars improved to 14-9 overall and 6-3 in the Spring River Valley Conference with their fifth win in a row.
Rachel Brehm tallied 27 points for CHC. Kelsi Bodine and Kirsten Ward added nine apiece.
Hannah Probert netted 21 points for the Eagles. Golden City trailed 38-19 at intermission.
Golden City boys 54, College Heights 24
GOLDEN CITY, Mo.—Golden City outscored College Heights 30-11 in the first half en route to a victory Thursday night.
Cody Triplett led Golden City with 15 points. Teammate Hayden Todd had 13.
College Heights was led by Drew Byrne who had 6 points.
Golden City (9-14) will play at 6 p.m., Monday against Thomas Jefferson in the first round of the district tournament hosted by Hume.
