Ozark Christian College volleyball coach Tony Allmoslecher, replenishing his roster with another season on the horizon, has added a second Carl Junction product.
Desiree Felker has joined the Ambassadors after two seasons at Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kan.
The 5-foot-7 Felker, who helped Asya Herron’s Panthers post a 23-16 overall record in 2011, said Thursday she had her mind set on attending OCC before the start of her sophomore season.
Rickie Lea Duley, a freshman, is the other Carl Junction player at OCC.
Desiree, the daughter of Michelle and Bruce Felker, plans to major in education (a co-op program with OCC and Missouri Southern State University).
Said Allmoslecher: “We’re hoping to use her as an outside hitter and we believe she can become our best defensive specialist.”
Such talk was music in the ears for Carl Junction coach Sarah Wall.
“Desiree, a two-year starter (for the Bulldogs), is the epitome of a utility player,” Wall said. “She did everything we asked and she did it with a great attitude.
“Desiree (an all-region performer) played the middle, was an outside hitter, was a setter and was a defensive specialist,” Wall said. “She never took a step back.”
Said Herron in a Neosho County release: “Des is a high energy player that will do great things at OCC. Her love for the game and work ethic will be truly missed.”
Carl Junction currently has won three straight Class 3 district titles, Felker noted, and she helped make it 4 of 6 as a sophomore.
“Coach Wall does a great job,” Allmoslecher said. “Those girls (Felker and Duley) have great volleyball IQs.”
Allmoslecher is scheduled to return two starters (Aurora’s Bethany Decker and Webb City’s Meghan Melton) from a 39-7 edition that finished second in NCCAA Division II for the second season in a row.
