Northeast Community College of Norfolk (Neb.) will visit Crowder on Saturday to decide District K.
Crowder (27-5), which entered the week ranked 15th in NJCAA Division I women’s basketball, and No. 17 Northeast (28-3) already have qualified for the national tournament at Salina, Kan.
But the winner of this 2 p.m. clash at Neosho in Bob Sneller Gymnasium will bolster its seedings stock for nationals.
Crowder coach Tina Robbins said Tuesday that three Crowder players have been named to the postseason first team in Region 16. They are sophomores Terai Sadler and Sarah Sagely and freshman Camila Lacerda.
Plus, Caprese Marshall, a sophomore, received honorable mention.
Robbins said it’s the first meeting for the Lady ’Riders against Northeast in her six seasons as coach.
“An early scouting report indicates they (the Hawks) have a good post player and good guards,” Robbins said. “Tonight we’ll start watching film.”
Visiting Northeast, avenging two earlier losses, won Region 11 by beating 16th-ranked Iowa Western 70-64 on Saturday night in Council Bluffs.
Iowa Western, which could make the nationals with an at-large bid, had defeated Northeast 85-65 a week earlier at Council Bluffs.
Northeast received 18 points from 5-foot-4 sophomore Andrea Johnson, 15 points from 5-6 freshman Raveen Murray and 13 points and nine rebounds from 6-3 sophomore Ivana Vuletic.
Iowa Western led 10-2 and 27-15 in the first half before a 13-0 surge by the Hawks left the Reivers (25-6) ahead by only 32-30 at the half.
Iowa Western sank just 6 of 27 from beyond the arc.
Said Reiver coach Jim Turgeon on the Reiver Sports Network: “We’ve lived and died by the 3-point line all year. Northeast was more aggressive than us taking the ball to the basket and getting to the free-throw line. That’s it in a nutshell.”

Without Rick Borgard’s knee injury midway through his high school football season and Sharon Fees’ change of mind before entering college, the Missouri Southern blood that runs predominantly through their family may have never started pumping.
