Generals tip Outlaws twice

OZARK, Mo. — The Joplin Outlaws dropped a pair of one-run games to the Ozark Generals on Wednesday night.

Ozark scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Joplin 7-6 in the opener, and the Generals scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning to beat the Outlaws 4-3 in the second game.

Joplin jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opener after plating one run in the first inning and tacking on three more in the second when Zac Stewart hit a three-run triple.

However, Ozark scored three runs in the bottom of the second and two more in the bottom of the fifth. The Outlaws took a 6-5 lead in the top of the seventh when Matt Turner hit an RBI double.

Ozark’s Spencer Blacksher tied the game with an RBI double, and Payton Reed scored the winning run on a wild pitch from Joplin’s Chris Bonk.

Again Joplin took an early lead in the second game, scoring three runs in the top of the first. However, the Outlaws didn’t score the rest of the way. Ozark tied the game in the bottom of the third, and Robert Rito hit an RBI single for the go-ahead run in the fifth.

Joplin’s record dropped to 14-27. The Outlaws travel to face Chillicothe for a single nine-inning game at 7 p.m. today.
