Shawnee Phillips, an all-league and all-region performer at Labette Community College, has signed a basketball letter-of-intent with Missouri Southern.
Phillips, 5-foot-9 guard from Santa Rosa, Calif., averaged 17.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 2.1 assists last season at Labette.
“Our recruiting needs are centered around bringing in dominant scorers,’’ Lions coach Maryann Mitts said in a press release. “Shawnee fits our desire to have a versatile, combo guard who can score off the drive and from long range.
“She is a competitor and a vocal leader who is physically able to compete in the MIAA immediately. We are excited about her offensive production as well as her athleticism on the defensive end. Shawnee's large skill set will enable her to have success both in transition and within our half court offenses.”
Phillips was a four-year letter winner at Santa Rosa High School and a three-time all-conference selection. She averaged 10.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and three steals her senior season. She also played soccer and was named conference defensive player of the year as a senior.
