McClure to broadcast MSSU games

Mike McClure has been named Missouri Southern’s new voice of the Lions.

The southwest Missouri native will be the play-by-play announcer for Missouri Southern’s athletic teams.

McClure has broadcast high school and college games during the past 18 years and will continue those roles except for games that conflict with MSSU dates.

“We are very excited to add Mike to our team at Missouri Southern,” said Randon Coffey, MSSU’s director of marketing and corporate sales. “His vast experience and familiarity with Southern athletics will provide quality broadcasts to our community and fan base.”

McClure has been involved in broadcasting since 1985, covering high school football, basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball for Monett Communications.

He added television duties in 2001, joining the Mediacom staff in Springfield and serving as a play-by-play announcer and color analyst for Missouri State University, Drury University, Springfield Lasers tennis and high school sports.

In 2009, McClure became president of McClure Broadcasting, LLC. Among his work, he broadcasts a variety of varsity sports on the internet for high schools including Monett, Mount Vernon and Aurora.

McClure, a graduate of Monett High School and the University of Arkansas, has covered almost 3,000 games during his career.
