CARTHAGE, Mo. —
Kyle Dickens homered and Jon Woodcock pitched a three-hitter for six innings in the Joplin Outlaws’ 2-1 victory Thursday night against Ozark in the first game of a MINK League doubleheader at Carl Lewton Stadium.
Ozark won the season-ending second game, 13-4.
“Woodcock had a great outing,” said Outlaws head coach Rob Vessell. “He worked the count real well, mixed his pitches and had a good game.”
Woodcock, a left-hander, allowed one unearned run, walked one and struck out four.
In the second game, the Generals led 5-2 when they scored seven runs in the fifth inning and took a 12-2 lead. The Generals outhit the Outlaws, 17-10.
“In the second game, we just goofed around and had pitchers hit and play positions,” Vessell said. “After we won the first game, I told them I would reward them.
“I’ll definitely miss these guys,” he said. “I told them if there’s anything I can do to help them in baseball, I will. There’s not one bad thing I can say about these guys. I’ll be back next year.”
