LEBANON, Mo. — Joplin, scoring four goals in the first four minutes, won 10-0 in opening its Ozark Conference soccer schedule on Tuesday.

The match was called four minutes into the second half after two goals by Joplin (1-1 overall) extended an 8-0 halftime lead.

Freshman Luis Santillan finished with three goals for the Eagles and Parker Maher had two goals and three assists.

Zach Cox, Ryan Estus and Joe Rice also had goals in the first half for Joplin.

Joplin, which visits Willard on Thursday, received goals from Nathan Fisher and Danny McDonald in the second half.

Blake Ward and Brock Renken were in goal for Joplin.

Webb City 3, College Heights 1

Jace Cooke scored two goals as Webb City opened its season with a victory over College Heights.

The Cougars (1-2) took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute when Logan Sparlin found the back of the net off an assist from Dalton Zarrabi.

The Cardinals responded 11 minutes later with a Kyle Handley goal, on an assist from Aaron Tappana. Cooke added his first goal right before halftime on an assist from Brandon Shultz to make it 2-1. He added another in the 79th minute on an assist from Austin Sanders.

Webb City blasted 20 shots on goal, and Nate Vandergriff turned in 11 saves for the Cardinals.

The Cougars, who fired 17 shots, had five saves from Zach Davis and three from Evan Belk.  

College Heights will be at Riverton for a 4:30 p.m. game Thursday.

TENNIS

Joplin splits matches

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Eagles beat West Plains 7-2 before losing 6-2 to Camdenton in duals at the Cooper Complex.

The decisions left Joplin 3-2 in duals.

Lexi Willcoxon, a junior, posted singles wins in each dual for the Eagles.

Winning in singles for Joplin against West Plains also were Meghan McCreary, Laela Zaidi and Dana Jacobs. Sweeping in doubles were McCreary-Zaidi, Siri Ancha-Willcoxon and Jacobs-Leah Collins.

Collins also won in singles for the Eagles against Camdenton.

Joplin will play host to Parkview and Glendale at 2 p.m. and 4 on Tuesday, respectively, at the Joplin Athletic Complex.

Webb City 8, College Heights 1

WEBB CITY, Mo. — The Cardinals evened their season record at 2-2 with the victory over College Heights.

Kirsten Robertson, Macy Layne, Elizabetth Tappana, Emily Graskemper and Darshi Edirisooriya won their singles and doubles matches for the Cardinals.

Taylor Little prevailed at No. 1 singles for College Heights (1-1).

VOLLEYBALL

Cardinals prevail in opener

WEBB CITY, Mo. — Webb City edged Springdale Har-ber 25-22, 25-14, 26-24 in its season opener.

Katie Box helped lead the way for the Cardinals with nine kills, four aces and six digs. Kaitlin Jaeger turned in seven kills while Hailey Roderique also added five kills.

The Cardinals are back in action with a 5 p.m. tilt Thursday at Parkview.

College Heights tops Nevada

NEVADA, Mo. — College Heights Christian notched its second road victory in as many nights, downing Nevada 25-15, 25-17.

Hannah Braeckel collected five blocks and nine digs for the Cougars (2-0). Makayla Fuller served four aces among 10 points, Missy Sterling had eight assists, and Konnor McIntire and Kaylee Ohmart both had six kills for CHC.

Bailey Harbit, Erica Wagenknecht and Kelci Blissman each had three kills for Nevada. Marisa Hughes and Cassidy Lowery had seven digs and five assists, respectively.

College Heights makes its home debut next Tuesday against Miller, starting at 6.

Southwest spikes Thomas Jefferson

The Southwest Trojans came back to win the final two sets and upend the Thomas Jefferson Cavaliers at TJHS.

After the Cavaliers took the first set 25-23, the Trojans stormed back with wins of 25-12 and 25-17.

The Trojans were led by Megan Light and Montana Hendrix who turned in 10 kills apiece. Tiffany Shockley added 15 assists.

Southwest (1-1, 1-0 Ozark 7 Conference) goes to Exeter for a 5 p.m. tilt on Thursday.

SOFTBALL

Webb City 10, Aurora 0

WEBB CITY, Mo. — Chelsea Smith and Alexah Replogle belted three-run home runs as Webb City blanked Aurora in a five-inning contest.

Smith’s home run expanded the Cardinals’ lead to 5-0 in the third inning, and Replogle connected in the fourth to highlight a four-run spree.

Kaitline Beason went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two singles to pace Webb City’s 10-hit attack. Replogle and Laney Kneib each hit a double, and Shelby Stuck contributed a triple for the Cardinals (6-1).

Kyra Parker and Beason combined for a five-hit shutout. Karsyn Hegna had two of the five singles for Aurora (2-3).

Games on Thursday pit Willard at Webb City and Seneca at Aurora.

Webb City 16, East Newton 4

GRANBY, Mo. — The Cardinals garnered 19 hits in the six-inning, nonconference game on Monday.

Kaitlin Beason had four hits and five RBI to pace the visitor. Alexah Replogle homered and Kambrey Cooper, Morgan Lammey and Kyra Parker had two hits apiece for the Cardinals.

Katlin Butler had two hits for East Newton.

GOLF

McNair leads Girard to victory on links

Girard cruised to a 208-222 victory over Carl Junction at Twin Hills Golf Course.

Timbrelee McNair led the charge for Girard as she turned in the low score of the day with a 43 in the par 36 event.

Joplin took third as a team with 243 while Pittsburg rounded out the event with three golfers.

Carl Junction’s Paige Drummond turned in a 49, followed by Maddie Ferson 53, while Mallory Ware and Liesel Harron each shot a 60.

For the Eagles Cassidy Grooms shot a 51, Autumn Reynolds 58, Kylie Davis 66, Marissa Queen 68 and Karlie Besendorfer 71.  

Joplin will be back in action at 8:30 a.m. Thursday Sept. 9 in Girard.
