Three members of the No. 13-ranked Northeastern Oklahoma A&M football team have been dismissed from the squad for disciplinary reasons, according to head coach Dale Patterson.
“We are nearing completion of our investigation into the circumstances surrounding the situation,” said Patterson, who also serves as athletics director. “Once I have all the information, appropriate action will be taken immediately.”
Sophomores Jaiari Dunaway and Deion Fipps and freshman Chris Carter are no longer with the team. Dunaway and Fipps were starters while Carter saw considerable playing time through the first five games. All three were defensive players.
Outside linebacker Dunaway, 6-foot-2, 230-pounder from Murfreesboro, Tenn., leads both NEO and the Southwest Junior College Football Conference in total tackles (57), quarterback sacks (10 for minus-52 yards) and tackles behind the line of scrimmage (12 for minus-57).
Fipps, 5-11, 210 from Tulsa Central, is the third-leading tackler, as an inside linebacker, with 35.
Carter, 6-3, 250 from Edmond Santa Fe, has made eight tackles coming off the bench.
“We’ve explained the situation to our team and they completely understand,” Patterson said. “I fully expect our team to go down to Trinity Valley on Saturday and play their hearts out.”
