CASSVILLE, Mo. —
Joplin improved its American Legion baseball record to 27-6 overall by sweeping a doubleheader from Cassville Post 118 on Tuesday night.
The Miners, 9-2 in games to determine seedings for the postseason District 15 Tournament, logged 22-2 and 14-3 wins in five-inning games.
The Miners resume by visiting Webb City Post 322 at 6 p.m. on Thursday for a twinbill at Barnes Field.
Tuesday’s winning pitchers for Joplin were right-handers Tristan Ash and Caleb Garton. Blake Brown, another right-hander worked three frames to save the first contest. Left-hander Rex Whisner and right-hander Chris Leonardi followed Garton with an inning each.
Brown had four hits and five RBI in the opener for the Miners. Ash, Tyson Hardee, Leonardi and Gavin Williamson had three hits apiece. Leonardi added three RBI and Ash, Hardee and Williamson each had two.
Brett Graham had four hits and as many RBI for Joplin in Game 2. Gavin Jones had three safeties and Ash, Brown and Whisner two apiece.
Joplin coach Drew Schulte said Ash is the probable starting hurler in Game 1 at Webb City.
