Tiffany Bennett threw a one-hitter as Missouri Southern split a softball doubleheader Tuesday with Missouri S&T.;
The Lions won the opener 8-0 behind Bennett. Missouri S&T; came back with a 2-0 decision in the second game at Wild Field.
Missouri Southern, 7-15-1, will play four MIAA games this weekend at Warrensburg. The Lions meet Southwest Baptist and Pittsburg State on Friday, then test Emporia State and Central Missouri on Saturday.
Bennett, a junior left-hander from Owasso, Okla., allowed only a leadoff double to Missouri S&T;’s Becky Davis in the fourth inning. She didn’t issue a walk and struck out two Rolla hitters.
Shortstop Krista Bomak and left fielder Natalie Nelson drove in two runs each for the Lions, who scored three times in the second inning and twice more in the third. Center fielder Breanna Vokmann had three hits and scored twice and right fielder Megan Roark added a pair of hits.
Missouri S&T;’s Taylor Keal stopped the Lions on five hits in the second game. Keal worked around six walks and left 11 Southern runners stranded.
Kristen Drage and Kaylea Smith had RBI doubles for the Miners.
Volkmann and second baseman Kelli Box had two hits each for the Lions.
