Central Oklahoma continued its recent torrid play in taking a commanding lead after the first day of the MIAA Men’s Golf Championships at Paradise Point Golf Club while Missouri Southern sits eighth in the 12-team field
UCO sits 28 strokes ahead of second-place Central Missouri after the first two rounds. The tournament wraps up today with a final 18-hole round.
Lindenwood, Washburn and Nebraska-Kearney round out the top five. Northeastern State and Missouri Western sit ahead of MSSU in sixth and seventh, respectively.
MSSU was led by Ryan Buerk’s two-over-par 74 in the first round and three-over 75 in the second round. The junior is tied for 17th with a 149.
Ryan Russell’s two-round score of 151 has him tied for 24th while Andy Hogenmiller and Andrew Maier each finished the day with a 158.
Freshman Ben Starkey shot a 75 on the second round — 10 strokes better than his Round 1 performance — and is tied for 53rd with a 160.
Pittsburg State is tied with Southwest Baptist for 10th, five strokes behind MSSU.
Fletcher Harder leads the Gorillas, tied for 20th with a 150.
Central Oklahoma’s Dillon Rust leads the tournament on the strength of his opening-round 67. He followed that up with a 70 and sits five strokes ahead of teammates Trevor Stafford and Logan Waresback, who are tied for second with a 142. UCO’s five-man squad is rounded out by Eric Kline (Tied for ninth with a 147) and Chris Muriana (Tied for 28th with a 152.)
