A fast car, but a bad weekend for Felker

Money Midget Week last week wasn’t fun for Carl Junction driver Andrew Felker.

“We had a fast car,” Felker said on Thursday. “But it was a bad weekend.”

Felker placed 19th on Sunday night in the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series 30-lap main event at US 36 Raceway at Cameron, Mo.

Kyle Larson, Elk Grove, Calif., won the A feature at US 36 Raceway for the second straight year.

Felker, who turns 20 on Nov. 21, placed 22nd on Friday night at Solomon Valley Raceway in Beloit (Kan.) and 20th on Saturday night at Junction Motor Speedway at McCool Junction, Neb.

“We’d been fortunate. We hadn’t had much bad luck this season before last weekend,” Felker said. “The bad luck bit us pretty good. We had parts breaking that shouldn’t have been breaking.”

Felker entered the three shows No. 1 in points in both the Lucas Oil National Midget Series and the POWRi Lucas Oil West Midget Series.

Now, of course, there’s a new look in points. Felker remains No. 1 in the National Midget Series. But the advantage is 2,040-1,990.

National Midget Series runner-up Chett Gehrke, Broken Arrow, Okla., has replaced Felker atop the West Midget Series — 1,490-1,070 — with just three shows remaining. Dad Danny Felker is second in owner points.

The midgets are idle this week, Andrew Felker said, and he’ll compete Saturday in the POWRi Speedway Motors 600 cc Outlaw Micro Series at the Washington (Mo.) Town & Country Fair.

Racing begins at 7 p.m. on the 1/5-mile temporary track. The winner receives $1,000 and making the start will pay $100.

Felker is third in that series after 11 of 20 events (and three wins to make it 12 in his career). Leader Joe B. Miller, Millersville, Mo., has 1,520; Aaron Andruskevitch, Riverton, Ill., 1,235 and Felker 1,080.

Notes: Springfield Raceway, because of the Ozark Empire Fair, won’t hold races on Saturday night. .... The late model MARS DIRTcar Series resumes tonight at the Eagle (Neb.) Raceway and moves to 81 Speedway at Park City (Kan.), near Wichita, on Saturday night. It’s the annual clash of the NCRA/MARS. It’s MARS’ first appearance at Eagle. ... Racing is scheduled to resume Sunday night at 7:30 at the Monett Speedway with a regular weekly program of seven classes. Gates open at 5 p.m. with races at 7:30 on the 3/8-mile clay track. Admission prices are $12 and $5. A pit pass is $25.
