MSSU's Kaylee Morgan sets 4 PRs in heptathlon

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. —  Missouri Southern sophomore Kaylee Morgan set personal bests in all four events and ranks second after Wednesday’s opening day in the Cowley Tiger Hepathlon/Decathlon

Morgan, who prepped at Carthage, accumulated 2,965 points and ranks second behind Sharae Bates of Neosho County, who finished third in the pentathlon and won the 60-meter hurdles in the junior college national indoor meet last month.

Morgan’s marks on Wednesday were 15.13 seconds in the 100 hurdles, 5 feet, 4 inches in the high jump, 34-10 in the shot put and 26.27 seconds in the 200.

“She caught her trail leg on the ninth hurdles or she probably would have broken 15 seconds,” Lions coach Patty Vavra said. “She did a great job to recover and be able to finish the race.

“She had a great first day, and the weather is outstanding.”

Competition resumes today at 9:30 a.m.
