MSSU baseball travels to face Lopers

As the MIAA baseball regular season concludes this weekend, Missouri Southern mathematically still has a chance to make the postseason tournament field.

But the Lions have to first take care of their business and then receive a lot of outside help if they are to move up into eighth place.

The Lions (23-23, 16-20 MIAA) play a four-game series at Nebraska-Kearney (27-16, 21-5) starting today with a 6 p.m. game. A doubleheader is scheduled for Friday and another single game on Saturday.

The Lions are 10th in the standings behind Northeastern State (21-25, 17-19) and Northwest Missouri State (21-21, 15-18). Both the RiverHawks and Bearcats hold the tiebreaker over the Lions.

So for Missouri Southern to pass both teams, the Lions must win at least three games and hope that Northeastern State loses at least three games and the Bearcats at least two games.

Northeastern State plays host to sixth-place Washburn (24-19, 21-15) this weekend while the Bearcats are at home against Pittsburg State (16-30, 11-25).
