Ozark pins Joplin wrestling

Ozark won seven matches by pin and defeated Joplin 59-18 in a nonconference wrestling dual Tuesday night at the Joplin High School 9th and 10th Grade Campus.

Joplin senior Don Hollingshead at 152 pounds won his match by pinning Ozark’s Bryan Kenyon in the third period. Joplin won two matches by forfeit.

“It was kind of a rough night for us, but we did have some pretty close matches,” said Joplin head coach David Myers.

Skye Paulk at 126 lost a 6-2 decision to Ozark’s Michael Graves, and Keegan Loyd, a senior at 132, was decisioned by Nick Plyter, 6-1.

“Skye is a freshman,” Myers said. “He wrestled a really good match. Keegan wrestled hard.”

Landon Taylor at 182 and Danny Drouin at 220 returned to Joplin’s lineup after being out with illnesses. Taylor was pinned by Jason Canizalez and Drouin was pinned by Cody Lindsey.

“Landon Taylor wrestled a very good match,” Myers said. “He was winning the match 5-2 when he got caught on his back and got pinned. It’s nice to have them (Taylor and Drouin) back. Now we need to get them back into shape after being sick.”

Two of Joplin’s regulars remained out of the lineup against Ozark. Noah Hembree, a junior at 138, has a broken ankle and likely is out for the season, Myers said. Levi Puckett should return to the lineup within a couple of weeks, he said.

“We’re starting to get our kids back and going,” Myers said.
