Neosho's Eads signs with Labette

NEOSHO, Mo. — Marisa Jordan, who’s in her first season as volleyball coach at Labette Community College, believes she’s secured a setter for the next two seasons.

It’s Neosho’s Tori Eads.

The 5-foot-7 Eads signed a letter of intent with Jordan’s Cardinals on Monday.

“Definitely, we’re looking for someone to come in and fill the role of setter. And we believe Tori can do it,” Jordan said Thursday. “I was very excited when I saw her play.”

Neosho coach Kerri Roy agreed with Jordan.

“Tori was a four-year starter and, for sure (under Roy), we’ve been in the 5-1 formation since her sophomore year,” Roy said.

Roy said that Eads, as a senior, was a Class 4 all-district choice and a member of the all-Central Ozark Conference Large Division.

“She was a ball of power,” Roy said. “She was our glue. She was in the gym all the time and is still playing club ball.

“She has an outstanding work ethic,” Roy said. “She’s a joy just to be around in addition to being a joy to coach. She wants to continue playing volleyball after junior college.”

Eads, the daughter of Dana and Mike Eads, finished with a Wildcat career record of 1,205 assists, Roy said.

NJCAA Division II Labette, located in Parsons, is in the East Division of the Jayhawk Community College Conference.

Jordan, who’s assisted by Sherrie Blackburn, took the Labette position after assisting a year at Fort Scott Community College.

Jordan, a Marquette (Mich.) High School graduate, attended Fort Scott High School for three years. She played volleyball at Austin Peay University (Clarksville, Tenn.) of the Ohio Valley Conference and also was a student assistant at the school.

Keith Jordan, Marisa’s dad, is defensive coordinator at Fort Scott Community College. Dad was an assistant football coach at Northern Michigan during her senior year of high school.

“We’re still looking for players,” she said of the task, with Blackburn, of building a program at Labette.
