BOLIVAR, Mo. —
Webb City’s boys won the annual Bolivar Tournament by beating the host 70-56 on Saturday night.
The Cardinals, 15-3, used a big third period —23-11 — for the impetus to handle the Liberators. Webb City trailed 28-27 at the half.
Phoenix Johnson and Kohl Slaughter paced the Cardinals with 26 and 20 points, respectively. John Roderique added 10 points.
Johnson canned 14 of 16 free throws and added a layup in the fourth quarter.
Cody Garrison and Chance Rash tallied 22 and 19 for Bolivar.
Nevada Lady Tiger Classic
NEVADA, Mo. — Unbeaten Republic, defending MSHSAA Class 4 champion, defeated Nevada 59-34 for the crown.
In other games, Blue Valley Southwest outlasted Carthage 63-60 in two overtimes for third place and Raymore-Peculiar tripped Joplin 69-35 for fifth.
Republic’s Sarah Kreul paced a balanced attack against Nevada with 14. Tori Dahmer tallied 14 for Nevada.
Carthage received 31 points from Chloe Shepherd and 18 from Vanessa Pawlak.
Four Ray-Pec players scored in double figures against Joplin. Kelsey Johnson, who had two treys, paced Joplin with 13.
Dahmer, a senior, and sophomore Morgan McNeley represented Nevada on the all-tournament team.
Carl Junction Boys 68, Savannah 59
ELDON, Mo. — The Carl Junction Bulldogs boys finished third at the Eldon Tournament by beating Savannah.
Travis Vogt (23) and Dustin Satterlee (19) combined for 42 points. Matt Magee and Gaige Crockett contributed nine and eight points, respectively.
Carl Junction (9-9) led 47-44 after three quarters but pulled away in the fourth.
The Bulldogs will be at home Tuesday against Neosho.
“We were sloppy the first three quarters,” Magee said. “We stepped up our defense in the fourth quarter.”
Wrestling
Joplin’s Hollingshead wins
Joplin Eagles wrestler Don Hollingshead won the 152-pound division at the Blue Springs South Tournament.
The Eagles finished 10th in the 12-team tournament with 144.5 points. Waynesville won with 445.
Other medalists for Joplin included Zach Phillips (sixth) at 106, Levi Puckett (third) at 126, Niko Thompson (eighth) at 145 and Phillip Reitz (fourth) at 285.
Swimming
Eagles’ Stauffer places fourth
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Kate Stauffer of Joplin placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke in the Springfield Invitational swimming and diving meet at Foster Natatorium.
Stauffer’s time of 1 minute, 12.93 seconds was 66 one-hundredths of a second behind Mercy Housh of Carthage, who was third.
Housh also placed third in the 500 freestyle, and Carthage was seventh in the 400 freestyle relay.
