The Ozark Christian College women’s basketball team committed 30 turnovers in a 61-40 loss to the Barclay Bears in the first round of the MCCC Tournament on Thursday night at Ambassador Gymnasium.
“We just didn’t execute,” OCC coach Tab Hall said. “We didn’t execute as a team.
“We had way too many turnovers. It’s difficult to win when you turn the ball over as much as we did.”
Barclay (9-14) recorded 14 steals and kept the Ambassadors out of sync for much of the game.
Still, Ozark (1-27) trailed only 29-20 at halftime. But the Bears stretched the lead out in the second half by making 8-of-12 free throws. The Ambassadors also shot only 26.9 percent from the field in the second half.
Jamie Larsh led Barclay with 15 points. RaeLyn Epp, Brandi Moral and Morgan Stander scored nine points each.
The Ambassadors were led by Janie Weece with 13 points and Sarah Rhodes with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Barclay advances to face Central at 2:15 p.m. today in the semifinals.
Ozark will play Calvary (5-13) at 9 a.m. today in the fifth-place game. It is a winnable game as Calvary is the one team the Ambassadors have defeated this season.
“The girls have to make a mental shift and believe they can win,” Hall said. “It’s a change in mindset. I think we’re ready to turn the corner.”
