Prep soccer roundup: CJ, Carthage advance

CARTHAGE, Mo. — Anissa Williams scored three goals as Carl Junction advanced to the championship game of the Class 3 District 12 tournament with an 8-0 victory against Webb City.

Carl Junction will play Carthage at 6 p.m. Wednesday for the district title.

Five Carl Junction players scored goals as the Bulldogs took a 6-0 halftime lead. Taylor Beck, Bekah Dinwiddie, Sydney Soleberg, Callie Degani and Williams — twice — scored in the first half.

Madeline Kennedy, who had two assists, and Williams scored in the second half.

Carthage tops Neosho

Carthage outlasted Neosho 3-2 in two overtimes in the second match.

Leigh Ann Craig converted a penalty kick with about five minutes left to lift the Tigers to the sudden-death victory against the Wildcats.

Neosho forced the first overtime at 2-2 with about 12 minutes left in regulation.

Ana Luna and Craig posted earlier goals for Carthage (10-7).
