Bennett’s steal lifts Ambassadors to win

The quick hands of Paden Bennett helped the Ozark Christian College men’s basketball team repel visiting Grace University of Omaha 71-69 on Saturday.

The Royals, however, pulled out a 76-73 win in the opening women’s contest.

OCC men’s coach Chris Lahm said that Bennett’s steal with 2.2 seconds left sealed the win for the Ambassadors (9-10).

Steven Tackett scored 25 points for OCC. Kyle Wicklund added 16 points and 10 rebounds and Bennett had 12 points.

The OCC men, who entertain Central Bible at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, were ahead 35-28 at the half.

The Grace women outscored OCC 39-35 in the second half to prevail. They shot 43.6 percent from the field to OCC’s 39.3 and had 50 rebounds to 32 for the Ambassadors.

OCC, which was without Melea Cook because of sickness, received 20 points from Tesia Lahm, 19 from Brittany Owen and 18 from Bayli Gibson. Gibson added nine boards.

The OCC women, 6-7 under Darrell Doss, also will play at home on Tuesday night. But the 5:30 p.m. game will be against Dallas Christian.
