Many consecutive days of triple-digit temperatures can become unbearable.
Especially for a polar bear.
Louie, the mascot of the St. Louis Blues hockey team, visited with pediatric patients on Thursday afternoon at Freeman Health System.
Louie, described as a blue polar bear from a small town near the Arctic Circle, came to Joplin with some Blues players who worked on cleanup efforts on Thursday. Louie took a mid-afternoon break from the heat and went to Freeman where he visited with pediatric patients, mothers and fathers of newborns, and he visited the neonatal intensive care unit.
During the visits, Louie posed for pictures and handed out Blues memorabilia.
“We appreciate the Blues not only coming down to help with cleanup efforts, but also Louie stopping by Freeman to lift the spirits of some of our smaller patients,” said Christen Stark, media coordinator at Freeman.
