To accommodate the Galena High School football fans, the Bulldogs’ semifinal game at Marysville has been moved from Friday night to Saturday afternoon.

Kickoff is at 2 p.m. at the Marysville High School Field.

According to Galena school officials, parking near the football field is limited, so fans will have to park on side streets and walk to the stadium.

Semifinal games in other classes across Kansas will be played on Friday night. However, both Class 3A games — Galena at Marysville and Wichita Collegiate at Norton — will be played Saturday.

“We first talked to (Marysville school officials) on Saturday, to see if they would be interested,” Galena head coach Beau Sarwinski said. “That way, our kids’ parents and our fans can get to the game without having to miss work.”

It’s a five-hour, 300-mile trip from Galena to Marysville, located north and west of Topeka and just a few miles south of the Kansas-Nebraska state line.

“In the state of Kansas, it’s between both schools as far as moving the game. If they can’t come to an agreement, then you play on Friday. They were pretty good about it, felt like it was a good time to play, so we made that decision,” Sarwinski said.

Galena (12-0) secured its first semifinal berth in school history with a 26-15 victory Friday night over visiting Rossville.

Marysville (11-1) advanced with a 21-14 decision over unbeaten Silver Lake, ending the Eagles’ streak of seven straight state championship game appearances.
